Bug Description

Binary package hint: fast-user-switch-applet

The fast-user-switch-applet currently has its own set of icons it uses for the online status (online, busy, away, offline). These icons aren't user-friendly (a trashcan for away?). For consistency, the icons should be the same used in the status drop down box in empathy.
I've attached two screenshots showing the difference in icons between empathy & fast-user-switch

I wonder what the status in user-switcher is meant for... It reflects the status of empathy IM? It would be redundant to have to icons in the panel showing the user status. Where am I wrong?

At first (before I saw empathy), I thought it was to let you know who else was on the machine that you could message with 'write', which seemed like a strange place for Ubuntu to place its efforts. After I saw empathy, I must say, I was just as confused as you (and the trash can sure is weird).

Nothing new to add really, I just want to be on the CC list so I can see where this goes.

So, now that icons are homogeneous, I still wonder why this redundant information... When I run Ekiga 3 + Empathy + User Switcher I get *three* circular green presence icons, synchronized via d-bus. It's the same information triplicated! I don't want to open a new bug, just know if the choice is to keep three identical icons or maybe keep the presence only in the User Switcher.

Another thing to say: I liked the user face icon in previous versions of User Switcher, now I don't see any, only usernames. Why user face icons were removed?
