I get the error during start-up of the gnome-session. There are several errors in the .xsession-errors, but nothing that appears to relate to mixer-applet2 explicitly. The error occurs each time I start a session. I haven't used the mixer-applet deliberately.

Also the same on Intrepid x86_64 (#1 SMP Fri Aug 15 13:54:22 UTC 2008 version). When Gnome desktop was loading i switched to tty2 and back. So may be that's why sound applet tell me that there is no sound devices. I try to remove applet to re-add new one, but it crushes when closing with this error message. Also it has after:
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade
procedure.

It's everything ok with the newest package on updated Intrepid. For me this
bug can be closed. Thank you.

Hmm. Well, I just encountered the same crash. I am running Jaunty on amd64 (Core 2 Duo) machine with fully updated packages as of a few minutes ago.

I noticed that two volume icons were displayed in my gnome-panel. I right-clicked on each one. One of them only showed "Mute" and "Sounds Preferences". The other showed the old list of context menu options. I removed the volume control applet that showed the old options and then hit this crash.

I can confirm the previous post. I have been unable to open gnome-volume-control and gnome-sound-properties. I have attached the output of "lspci -v" to this post.

I did not get this problem in Intrpid 64 bit, but do in Jaunty Alpha 6 64 bit.

This fix has landed upstream, We(Ubuntu) have not applied a patch for it
yet, So you will continue seeing this issue until the Desktop Team or
