Round yellow edit icon looks like an alert badge

Bug Description
In many places in the UI there's an edit icon, which is yellow circle with what is apparently supposed to be a pencil in it. To my eyes it the "pencil" looks much more like an italicised exclamation mark, and so icon looks like some sort of alert badge rather than an edit link.
The result is that even though I know those are meant to be edit links, I never find them or use them when I'm looking to edit something like bug title. A simple textual hyperlink labelled "(edit)" would work much better for me than this icon, and if done in a small font take up only slightly more space.
At the very least, the icon should be improved so that the "pencil" appears to be a single contiguous object rather than two separate parts. If I hadn't been told it was meant to be a pencil I would never have guessed.
