flickering graphics; cairo overlays are fighting with vte for redraws?

Bug Description
When you use to mouse to move a terminal around, to change the grid of terminals there is an excessive amount of flickering.
1. Create two terminals inside terminator.
2. Drag one of them (using the mouse) around.

I can repro this when turning compiz off .
and I had (and still have) this issue on the term-objects branch.
