I have related problem. On first install of Hardy after its release, networking was brilliant (kudos to developers) including wireless through USB port.
After recent updates, Places / Network / Windows Network shows MSHOME but selecting that shows no entries. Bookmarks I had already established still work fine and browsing to an explicit Samba address (eg smb://lacie2/share/ for one of the NAS drives) works too.
Thunderbird was sharing its mail folder on the Windows machine but now requires me to mount that folder before it can see it.

I use linksys wireless router which runs local DHCP service and is gateway to cable modem. NAS drives are on fixed IP addresses, Printer, Ubuntu laptop, windows XP desktop and windows XP laptop are dynamic IP.

Another oddity
Once I have managed to create a link to my NAS drive - using IP address and 'connect to server',
If I double click the desktop mounted item "share on 192.168.1.22", it opens the browser window on the share folder correctly but also creates a duplicate desktop mounted item.
