Bug Description

Linux/Linux MCE (LMCE), not picking up network "home network" on a netgear router to which linux box conected to by cable, tried to use Samba but zconfig network browser not picking up machines on network, not sure if I have or how to disable DHCP on the linux side. Trying to install a network management package is a challenge. apt-get install SWAT installs but bombs out on completing the install. Log to follow with next post of problem. Package manager GUI of apt crashes frequently.

Computer: basic 2.4Ghz with 256 Mb RAM
Running LMCE on kubuntu 7.04

I expected a complete install if SWAT which would allow me to direct the LMCE box to the netgear home network and be able to see the other computers (3 windows machines 1# Vista and 2*XP)

apt gui crashes, apt-get install command line not completing installation (broken package or something like that).

Regards,
Abongile

Sounds like you have a few different bugs there. The apport stuff in here seems to be referring to a crash in hwdb.
Please file separate bugs for:
- your install problem with SWAT, along with logs of the errors you get from apt-get.
- the crash with the graphical package manager (probably Adept if this is Kubuntu).

Also, please try the latest release, 8.04 to see if you still have these problems there.

Is the issue samba or networking in general? Do you have an IP address? If not, can you run "sudo dhclient" to try to get one from DHCP? If that doesn't work, can you assign a static IP and have it work? Without a network, how are you using apt, anyway?
