Bug Description

Binary package hint: ipe

As we don't keep our colourspalette we can sync.

 ipe (6.0pre30-5) unstable; urgency=low

   * debian/control: Adjust dependencies for freetype 2.3.7. Replace
     recommends of "latex-ucs" by "texlive-latex-recommended".

 ipe (6.0pre30-4) unstable; urgency=low

   * debian/control: Adjust dependencies for new freetype version. Closes:
     #487041. Remove (now obsolete) tetex-bin alternative from ipe
     dependencies. Update to standards version 3.8.0.0.

   * debian/ipe.doc-base: Change section from Apps/Graphics to Graphics.

 ipe (6.0pre30-3) unstable; urgency=low

   * debian/control:
   * debian/rules: Build using quilt.

   * debian/patches/decimal-point.patch: Set the LC_NUMERIC to "C" at
     program startup, to ensure decimal point is a period, not a comma.
     Closes: #480659.

While at it, could the recommended package 'ucs-latex' also be changed to 'texlive-latex-recommended'. See #220910

the changes don't seem to be ubuntu specific and the debian maintainer seem to be active, could you send those to the debian bts (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ContributingToDebian) so maybe the package can be synced on debian?

Since debian isn't willing to accept our change please go ahead and upload it :)

why is the suggest change right for ubuntu and not debian? ubuntu has no latex changes

also do you have any pointer to the discussion about the other change? is that really something worth have an ubuntu delta if that's controversial?

Could you please point to a discussion where Debian guys reject this change?

Looking at the debian changelog of IPE (http://packages.debian.org/changelogs/pool/main/i/ipe/ipe_6.0pre30-5/changelog) the change from 'ucs-latex' to 'texlive-latex-recommended' is already applied to

 ipe (6.0pre30-5) unstable; urgency=low

   * debian/control: Adjust dependencies for freetype 2.3.7. Replace
     recommends of "latex-ucs" by "texlive-latex-recommended".

So I think the title of this bug report needs to be updated.

Updating for keeping merging for version 6.0pre30-5.
I decided to keep the color palete. Debian Maintainer refused to apply it but sent it upstream
and I don't see a reason why upstream won't include it.

Stefan (or whoever likes to help out ;),

as the current version of ipe_6.0pre30-2ubuntu1 is pretty much unusable (pdf does not display all text, color palette, ...) I was wondering how hard is it to compile the ipe package anew and also using your latest debdiff. Is there an easy howto you could point me to?

Thanks,
Dietmar

Hi,
I nearly forgot about it. I asked a MOTU to sponsor it.
If you are still interested in how you could do it personally just let me know :)

Cheers,

Hi,

The Debian maintainer gave his opinion in

  http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=488964

and forwarded the change to

  http://http.theano.de/cgi-bin/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=267

where the author pointed out that patching this in Ubuntu
is a bad idea. As well as the problem that he points out
the diff also removes some colours from the palette, so
files created elsewhere may not work on Ubuntu.

I think we are better off syncing this package, Stefan
what do you think?

Thanks,

James

The only problem with this would be that files created on
previous versions on Ubuntu may no longer open in Intrepid.

ACK from me though.
