Bug Description

when I choose shutdown -> Hibernate I end up with a black screen,
one line: (I think those first numbers are somewhat random)

[ 891.422207][fglrx:KCL_enable_pat] *ERROR* Pat entry 2 is already configured

then after some 10 seconds the machine reboots (without shutting down properly).
The previous desktop session gets lost.

I'm using an Acer TM8106wlmi but according to the only thread on the topic I could find
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=5019757
this error can also occur on Thinkpad T42p and Dell Inspiron E1505.

I'm attaching dmesg output (from after restart) and will provide you with any addidional information - if you tell me what you need.

Right now I'm using the latest fglrx drivers from Ati (8.5)
$ fglrxinfo
display: :0.0 screen: 0
OpenGL vendor string: ATI Technologies Inc.
OpenGL renderer string: ATI MOBILITY RADEON X700
OpenGL version string: 2.1.7537 Release

but the same problem occurs with the drivers from the repositories as well (also did with the version before).

btw I'm using Hardy with all the latest updates.

I can confirm this bug, with 2.6.24-17, fglrx 8.5.

The difference is that the system seems to hibernate fine, but does not resume on reboot (it just cold boots)

However, if I go to the virtual console and hibernate from there, it works.

(radeon 9700 here)

I confirm it too. I have a dell latitude D610 and my kernel version is : 2.6.24-17-generic also.

OpenGL vendor string: ATI Technologies Inc.
OpenGL renderer string: ATI MOBILITY RADEON X300
OpenGL version string: 2.1.7412 Release

I have got that msg : fglrx:KCL_Enable_Pat] Pat entry 2 is already configured when i hibernate but it seems to work since it just shutdown after 10 sec and then resume fine. i used the function FN + hibernate to make it work.

The problem persists with 2.6.24-19-generic and

OpenGL renderer string: ATI MOBILITY RADEON X700
OpenGL version string: 2.1.7659 Release

I wouldn't care if it didn't reboot instead of turning the machine off.

I also have the same message every time I hibernate my ubuntu - Hardy. I am using Acer TM3210 using fglrx 8.522. The thing is that sometimes hibernate works fine and sometimes it restarts and I have to go through the process of scanning my disks for error. :) If you need any other information kindly email me...(with instructions on how to retrieve the info as I am new to linux)

Christian Stöveken, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. Hardy desktop reached EOL on May 12, 2011.
Please see this document for currently supported Ubuntu releases:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

We were wondering if this is still an issue on a supported release? If so, can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please provide the information following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKernelSuspendHibernateResume ? As well, please run the following command in a supported release from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux <replace-with-bug-number>

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.
