Hardy Firefox crash

Bug Description

Firefox is almost unusable. It crashes when using gmail, when trying to report a bug using launchpad.

I tried to obtain a crash report (as requested in various bugs) but I can't even do that because sudo apt-get install firefox-3.0-dbgsym \
     xulrunner-1.9-dbgsym \
     libgtk2.0-0-dbg \
     libnss3-0d-dbgsym \
     libnspr4-0d-dbg \
     libpango1.0-0-dbg \
     libcairo2-dbg \
     libc6-dbg
gives firefox-3.0-dbgsym
after updating /etc/apt/sources.list with
deb http://ddebs.ubuntu.com hardy main universe
deb http://ddebs.ubuntu.com hardy-updates main universe
#deb http://ddebs.ubuntu.com hardy-proposed main universe #Hardy doesnt have this Repo yet.
deb http://ddebs.ubuntu.com hardy-security main universe

as specified in https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MozillaTeam/Bugs#head-c576e78d92cb3c959c271158b6ace98be835de83

What a catch22!

Yeah, you cannot get -dbgsym packages for hardy-proposed.

Please attach the output of

 strace -f -eopen firefox &> /tmp/ffox.log.txt

to this bug.

if you have /usr/lib/firefox-3.0b5/components/compreg.dat.tmp or
/usr/lib/firefox-3.0b5/components/compreg.dat, remove those files

do the same if the same files exist in

 /usr/lib/xulrunner-1.9b5/components or
 /usr/lib/xulrunner-1.9/components or
 /usr/lib/firefox-3.0/components/

if my previous mail was wrong, please reopen this bug. otherwise its
most likely because you ran ffox as root once - which you should never
do that.

Alexander,

None of those files was present. I have never used Firefox as root. I always use if from the Applications menu or equivalent icon I've copied to the launch panel. I run it either as an Administrative user or as a Desktop user. It doesn't make any difference to the crashes. I have clean installed Hardy (rather than upgrading from Gutsy). I'm reopening this bug.
