Bug Description

Binary package hint: pidgin

For years now MSN Messenger has supported sending messages to people that are offline (even truly offline, not just in invisible mode). This is a very useful feature, and it can't be emulated properly with buddy pounces.

This bug is about when the other party is truly offline, so it is NOT a duplicate of Bug #68786, which is about when the other party is online but in "invisible" mode.

Quote from https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pidgin/+bug/68786/comments/3 :
"In fact, now msn can even store messages sent to offline people, as ICQ used to do ten years ago. But this is for another bug."
This is the "another bug" that he's referring to.

I could see in Pidgin changelog for 2.4.0

libpurple:
    * Added support for offline messages for AIM accounts (thanks to Matthew Goldstein)

However, I use 2.4.1 in Hardy, and offline messages are not sent to me.
I figured it out when I used the official msn client under Win, I received like 20 messages sent the past month!

So it is implemented ? Is it buggy ?

Huh? AIM is not MSN.

Oops.
You are truly right.

I investigated, and it looks like Emesene (python) and aMsn (tcl/tk) have it.

Kopete does not.

The status of this feature (and a big bunch of other ones) can be tracked here:

I don't know what takes so long, though. IIRC the progress of MSNP<whatever-version-that-supports-offline-messages> was almost completed over a year ago. I also don't understand how the pidgin devs can think it's a "minor" issue to not send/receive messages, when that's the main purpose of an IM client.
