Bug Description

Hey guys,

I just bought a HP P1005 printer today, bought it home and plugged it in. Immediately it picked it up and installed the "relevant" drivers. When I tried to print (from openoffice or test print) the print would process as per normal....but the job would then dissapear from the queue, with no actual printout from the printer. After a bit of research, I apt-getted hplip and ran hp-setup, and it printed fine. Thats where the success story ends, I got one page out before the print queue GUI thingy in the top right hand corner told me that it had hit an error. Rebooting the printer/laptop doesnt seem to fix it either.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Lewwy

Actually just further to that, I might add that after I had hit aforementioned error, I rebooted the PC, got another page (singular) out, and it hit another error. Trying to clear the error through the queue manager (the gui app) doesn't work either.

Hey Aaron, I actually fixed the issue myself (by ditching the propertiery HP drivers and switching to foo2xqx). Once I got the firmware issue sussed out (by make installing hotplug) it started to work great.

Okay..well in the future the device needs to be configured using hp-setup to work correctly. I was going to check the hp-check output to see how the printer was configured. Using the ubuntu (or other) printing manager to configure wont work because the device needs the firmware loaded.
