Bug Description

Some of the keywborad shutcuts do nor work. The most annoying to me are:
- Launch of the browser (I assigned it to Ctrl-Alt-B)
- Launch of the mail client (I assigned to Ctrl-Alt-M)
- Lauch of the logout window (default to Ctrl-Alt-Del)
- Lock of the screen (default to Ctrl-Alt-L)
- Suspend (deafult to Ctrl-Alt-S)

I use...

lsb_release -rd
Description: Ubuntu 8.04
Release: 8.04

Thanks,
Franco Sirovich

PS: Still does not work as of Aprile 17, and latest updates

I have the same issues. Although I assigned different shortcut combinations

Ctrl + Alt + O for Firefox
Ctrl + Shift + O for T-Bird

they won't work. Neither does Ctrl + Alt + L lock the screen. The combination Ctrl + Alt + T to open a terminal does work though, as well as Alt + F1 to access the Ubuntu Menue. I had a similar problem with Xubuntu from the previous version (7.10) but was never able to get rid of the problem.

I am using Hardy Heron 32 Bit on a FSC Lifebook E4010. Unfortunately, I am not sure about the package/s that might cause the problem, so it's rather hard to point a finger ;)!

Hi everybidy!
I installed the official 8.04 from the live CD as of Aprile 25th, and
all the problems reported below are no more present. As far as I am
concerned the report can be closed.

Thanks to all Ubuntu developers!

Unfortunately, I cannot confirm this. I already used the final version of the Hardy CD (from the day of release). The problems are still present.

I notice that if I have "Show position of pointer when the Control key is pressed" selected (in System->Preferences->Mouse), then the Ctrl+Alt+L key combination is ignored.
If unselected, the key combination works as expected.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Please answer these questions:

 * Is this reproducible?
 * If so, what specific steps should we take to recreate this bug?

This will help us to find and resolve the problem.

I followed the hint from Andy and was able to reproduce the behaviour. With activated "Show position of pointer when the Control key is pressed" most of my shortcuts are ignored. Strangely, the custom-defined STRG+ALT+T for the terminal works even then. If I de-select the cursor-highlighting, all of my custom-defined as well as the standard shortcuts work.

Hope that helps tracking the problem down.

could somebody having the issue send it to bugzilla.gnome.org where people writting the software will read the bug?

I have this bug too. I can confirm that unselecting "Show position of pointer when the Control key is pressed" fixes the bug. Note that Ctrl-Alt-L (Lock screen), Ctrl-Alt-S (Suspend), and Ctrl-Alt-H (Home folder) break, but Ctrl-Alt-D (Show desktop) and Ctrl-Alt-T (Open terminal) work fine. (Various Ctrl-Alt-specials and Shift-Ctrl-Alt-keys also work.)

I had this problem in Hardy and still have it in Intrepid, on a Dell Inspiron E1505. Please let me know if I can attach any helpful log files etc.

Turning off the option for Ctrl to show mouse cursor fixed the problem for me as well. As soon as I turned it off all of my hotkeys for things such as Browser and Search started working. It seems to affect any shortcut that includes Ctrl and maybe a letter because my hotkey for showing Desktop (Ctrl+SuperL+Alt) was never affected.
