Bug Description

I am observing multiple issues with external monitor in a hybrid system (laptop) with Intel GPU and NVIDIA GPU in a Gnome session:

- I typically use Firefox with several tabs opened and Visual Studio Code. Some times at least once a day I notice a severe performance degradation. The desktop becomes unresponsive. The mouse cursor skips. GNOME popups up dialogs proposing to close my applications. If I manage to reboot it is all fixed. Sometimes the system locks up completely. This seems like a severe memory leak.

I have not noticed it on previous versions. I use the latest updates and drivers of 22.04 LTS.

I am not sure how to auto-report this with ubuntu-bug. The system is similar to this report: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mutter/+bug/1970291

Thanks for the bug report. Next time the slowdown happens, or even before it does, please run this command:

  ps -eo pid,rss,cmd --sort -rss > toprss.txt

and attach the resulting text file here. It will tell us which processes are using the most memory.

This happened again. This time I had opened Firefox with a couple of windows and with a few tabs - mostly Ali Express like 7-8 and a few others. I was watching a Youtube video review on the NVIDIA external monitor. At some point I felt the browser to become a bit sluggist I moved the window with the video playing to the laptop display panel and then Firefox become really unresponsive and the whole GNOME desktop froze before I was able to do anything else. I had the power off the machine.

I believe that with the recent updates (NVIDIA driver) there is an issue when playing videos. Not just in Firefox also in VLC player.

Please open a new bug about the freeze in comment #2 and remember to follow the instructions in comment #1.

Also for Nvidia systems we still recommend logging into Xorg, not Wayland.

xwayland acts_switcher(xclients) from wayland-prior(mutter performing both_
twice scopes_oriented proposes).
so the nvidia_kernel_module is most like a cooper's loaded by
systemd-modprobe service .

That's what i captured one above collection ...

Hi,

MUTTER_SYNC=0/1 complains, client/server and both?

example:
xorg_xfree_server((mutter_sync[0]) +
steam_linux_client(listening_local_server)) + game(x)
xorg_xfree_server((mutter_sync[1]) +
steam_linux_client(listening_local_server)) + game (x)

wayland_mutter_sync((0) steam_linux_client(listening_local_server))
wayland_mutter_sync((1) steam_linux_client(listening_local_server))

... sorry not continous ...

I think is simpler coz:

 cases,
MUTTER_SYNC=client_sync_focus
MUTTER_SYNC=server_sync_focus
MUTTER_SYNC=csc (clients, servers[wayland_xwayland] and clients) <- this is
most expecting ...

What you think?
