Bug Description
Binary package hint: kvm
When trying to install Ubuntu in kvm (host & guest are both hardy), I got the following cryptic error message from kvm (on the host side), just after I'd configured the network in the installer in the guest, but before setting the host name:
kvm: Guest moved used index from 17 to 657
I've searched around a bit, but apparently this is because the network interface is being poked in some way virtio doesn't like (yet).
I think this should be fixed before hardy-final, because it makes installation of a kvm guest with virtio network enabled impossible, and the workaround is a bit ugly.
A workaround is using another model NIC (rtl8139, or the default) during install, then changing it to "virtio" for the first "real" boot.
Hi, thanks for the bug report!
Three questions for you...
1) Are you creating this virtual machine using the kvm command line, or through the graphical virt-manager utility?
2) How exactly are you telling the installer to use virtio?
3) Can you reproduce this problem in the latest Hardy and Intrepid images?
Thanks,
:-Dustin
