Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

I have installed Hardy alpha 6
Firefox 3 has been upgraded to beta 4
My system is up to date from "main server"

When visiting some sites, sometimes png pictures are not displayed
see here for an exemple :
http://hattory.blogspot.com/2008/03/gnome-222-is-out.html
(i can't see the picture http://www.gnome.org/img/flash/two-twenty-two.png just under the title "GNOME 2.22 is out!")

In the other hand, i can see png pictures like https://launchpadlibrarian.net/8196569/mediumubuntulogo.png at https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+filebug

I've tried without compositing enabled (nor compiz fusion nor metacity) and with metacity composite enabled and got the same defect

I am unable to reproduce this on Hardy (FF 3.0b4 as well) using the examples given (I see the images every time).

Could you please try to reproduce this with a new/fresh FF profile? The instructions are located here under the "Try with a new profile" section:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MozillaTeam/Bugs

Thanks!

that's strange
i've started Hardy alpha 6 Live CD and :
- i've used FF 3.0b3 with Compiz Fusion/Metacity with composite/Metacity without composite and everything is ok
- I've updated FF 3 to b4 and everything is ok

I can see everything as expected on my machine. Perhaps an issue loading from img src, and not the browser?

what does mean "Perhaps an issue loading from img src" ?

i should precise i've made a clean install of Hardy alpha 6 ess than one week ago after deleting all my configurations files on my /home

i understand : the problem occurs on web page that have been zoomed in (new full zoom : text+pictures)

Greg Grossmeier (greg.grossmeier) wrote :

Even after zooming in on the webpage (View -> Zoom -> Zoom In) a couple of times and reloading I am unable to reproduce this issue (with the suppled examples).

I'm not saying it isn't a bug, just saying I can't reproduce.

Next thing to try: Create a new user on your system. System -> Administration -> Users & Groups -> UNLOCK (enter your password) -> Add User
Then log in using that user and see if you can reproduce it again.

Thanks!

not only a zoom problem
pictures on that page http://www.gnome.org/projects/rhythmbox/screenshots.html are ok, but when i click on them to display them within Firefox in bigger size, pictures are not centered in their window
see screenshot attached
note that the common point between all these seems to be that pictures which are not correctly displayed are not full sized : full size picture can be display by clicking on it

i confirme that bug from a new user session

1st link http://hattory.blogspot.com/2008/03/gnome-222-is-out.html doesn't show the picture (default zoom)

2nd link http://arstechnica.com/journals/linux.ars/2008/03/13/banshee-1-0-alpha-1-released is ok with default zoom but not after zoom in or out

Clicking on pictures of the above mentioned page http://www.gnome.org/projects/rhythmbox/screenshots.html is not ok at all (but, again, pictures displayed on blank page after clicking on them a first time are not in full sized. Clicking again on them to display them to show them full sized is ok)

Based on supplied information I am confirming.

However, just to make sure we have this bug against the correct package, please keep a look out to make sure the problem does not exhibit itself in any other programs. In fact, please install the epiphany web browser (sudo apt-get install epiphany-browser) and test those sites with it.

Thanks!

Within Epiphany it's quite the same problem, i think, since Epi doesn't have the samefunctionnalities (so 2nd test ans 3re test are reelvant) :

1st link http://hattory.blogspot.com/2008/03/gnome-222-is-out.html doesn't show the picture

2nd link http://arstechnica.com/journals/linux.ars/2008/03/13/banshee-1-0-alpha-1-released is ok with default zoom. Epi can't zoom in/out pictures within the page so the 2nd test isn't relevant (no defect showed while zomming text...)

3rd test is not relevant either since Epi shows directly Full sized pictures and seems to not have the "fit picture to screensize" functionnality (No defect showed in that case with FF or Epi)

Removing assignment to Firefox since FF is most likely not the root cause of the problem.

I'm also getting this on epiphany. I have this in ~/.xsession-errors which may be connected:

"Error showing url: There was an error launching the default action command associated with this location."

Caroline Ford (secretlondon) wrote :

I've not had the error in .xsession-errors again (so may be random), but I can reproduce in Firefox too. In both cases I can right click on the image and it will load in another window just fine.

I've actually set as a duplicate. The different titles hide the same underlying issue https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=411831
