Memory usage increase in LiveCD

Bug Description

On Hardy Alpha-4, I could easily install within a VirtualBox with only 256MB of ram. With the Daily build as of Mar 08, ubiquity crashes with 240MB (to simulate 256MB with 16MB stolen by video card), even if I use ubiquity-only and compcaching (the compcache swap is pretty much used up before ubiquity even starts). While I understand that 256MB was never officially supported, it appears that there has been an massive increase in ram required. If this increase could be reversed without too much trouble, that would be great.
BTW, the install still works with ubiquity-only and compcaching if 256MB of ram is used.

The primary memory hog (as of Mar08) appears to be the new timezone choosing map. Perhaps the memory consumption of that could be reduced.

This does not appear to be an issue with the final 8.04 liveCD.
