knetworkconf cannot apply manual wireless settings : perl and kcmshell taking 100% cpu in Hardy and Gutsy

Binary package hint: knetworkconf

Knetworkmager do not manage hidden Wireless networks, so I tried to set it up in knetworkconf, with the following result, when I click on "apply settings", kcmshell and perl are both taking 100% CPU, and nothing else is happening, even if I wait more than 1 minute !

When I kill the perl process, I get following output from kde crash manager :

We are no longer shipping knetworkconf in Kubuntu, since it is buggy and seemingly unmaintained upstream.
