Thank you for your bug report. However, it's not complete yet. We need some information first.
Can you post the output of the following commands:
acpi -b
hal-find-by-capability --capability "battery"
gnome-power-bugreport.sh
gconftool --recursive-list /apps/gnome-power-manager
If the output is long, please post it as an attachment in a separate file.

Thank you for the information. However, you forgot the gnome-power-manager.sh command.
And please post the results in a separate file next time. ;) This makes the bug report hard to read.
And if anyone else can confirm this, please do.

It looks like bug #194719 could have the same cause as yours. Do the symptoms described there also apply to your laptop?

I think is not the same bug #194719. Gnome applet detect correctly current state (AC or Battery), it fails with time remaining and it does not know when the battery is near to empty (only BIOS alarm alerts you) .

I Send again requested reports. Now Laptop (IBM Thinkpad X41) is in battery mode and gnome applet indicator shows:

11 hours 50m remaining (39%)

acpi -b shows:

 Battery 1: discharging, 36%, 00:44:55 remaining

hal-find-by-capability --capability "battery"
