Bug Description

I was happily using Hardy Alpha, doing my database development, and all of a sudden I noticed firefox 2 was removed and replaced with firefox 3. The problem is that many plugins, basically the 2 most important plugins of the Web Developer Universe, do not yet work with Firefox 3: Web Developer Toolbar and Firebug. while there is already a bug about the lack of Web Developer Toolbar, There is none for Firebug. This bug is all about having the ability of using Firebug on Hardy.

My suggestion is to provide a Firefox 2.0 package alongside Firefox 3 beta. For me it's not a problem to have FF3 as the default browser. It's not a problem if I have to download the extension instead of using apt-get to install it either, I just need Firefox 2.0, at least until Firebug is compatible with FF3. I am sure others need this too.

"part of the plan is to upload firefox 2 with a different package name and demote that to universe. Its not encouraged to use that package though, but we understand that there are people that still need it. So stay tuned." from:

Also:
"FF3 doesn't need to be in production quality state; Ubuntu 8.04 is still under development, and so is FF3. Default inclusion will allow wider testing. If you need a working browser, you can use FF2 in a stable release. Please report any bugs that you encounter with FF3." from:
