Simple job and this has functioned up to ubuntu LTS with previous versions of VLC.

What to do: Have an UPNP server in your network, somewhere maybe at localhost. Fire up VLC, wait until in left pane the UPNP appears, than click on it once. In the right panel after short while the UPNP server name shoud appear. Click on that to open the upnp folder structure.

Is behaviour: Immediate crash on clicking the server name

If it crashes you should have core dump. Please provide a back trace with all debugging symbols installed. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash for details.

There is no apport response and something in /var/crash for vlc. But i can provide a deeper report from vlc itself.

The log looks like vlc exiting normally, so I don't see a crash here. Do you have "Quit at the end of the playlist" enabled?

Checking, YES this option was switched on. Switching it off restores the normal behaviour.

So this bug can be closed. In 17.10 the switch wasn't on or the default seems to be changed.

Thank you
