Adobe Flash plugin crashing in Gutsy 64-bit

Bug Description

The flash plugin seems to crash when two or more flash objects are loaded on a single page Firefox browser. However, sometimes the plugin will simply crash with only one flash object loaded (more often with flash video). Simply closing and re-opening Firefox re-enables the plugin for a short period of time before it crashes again under the same conditions mentioned above.

The crashed Flash plugin is signified by a pale grey box on the flash page where the plugin object should be loading.

As far as I'm aware I'm using the Adobe flash plugin, my about:plugins page in Firefox lists both "Shockwave Flash" and "FutureSplash Player" as "In use". I'm running Firefox 2.0.0.11 on Gutsy 64-bit, with all software up-to-date.

I experienced this problem as well, but I'm assuming this is not a problem with Ubuntu, since Ubuntu does not develop, maintain, or even distribute the plugin that's malfunctioning, as far as I know.

I'm guessing it will be fixed in a later version of the flash plugin. Until then, reverting to an older version solved my problem. If you're not sure how to do that (I wasn't), check out this forum thread:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=476924

Click the link that says "Click here for the script that installs the old r48 plugin" and follow the included instructions. I removed my nspluginwrapper and flashplugin-nonfree before running that script, but that might not have been necessary.

Hope that helps. Good luck!

JB

Brilliant! This seems to have done the trick.

Let's hope they can sort this out in the next release.

Actually, since I made my post above I've noticed some other problems with the older version. Some clicks aren't registered properly. Still, it's better than the problem with the new version which is completely unusable on some sites.
