Bug Description

The "Tips and Tricks" tutorial page[1] states that Gaussian blur is not
available, which is no longer true as of 0.45. This is a killer feature,
and it would be great if this page were updated to reflect it.

Look under the heading "Bitmap drop shadows" for the text "While Inkscape
does not yet support the Gaussian blur SVG filter..."

Here's some possible replacement text:

<h2>Drop shadows</h2>

Inkscape supports Gaussian blurs of objects. One quick way to create a drop
shadow is to duplicate the object (<kbd>Ctrl+U</kbd>), set its fill to
black, offset it slightly down and to the left or right
(<kbd>&larr;&darr;&rarr;</kbd>), send it to the back (<kbd>Page
Down</kbd>), open the <span class="menu-command">Fill and Stroke</span>
dialog (<kbd>Ctrl+Shift+F</kbd>), and blur to taste&mdash;try a value of
10% or so.

Thanks! It looks like someone has already put some new text in; the
website just hasn't been updated. Fwiw, here's the new text:

Inkscape supports the Gaussian blur SVG filter, so you can easily create
blurred drop
shadows for objects. Select an object, duplicate it by
<keycap>Ctrl+D</keycap>, press
<keycap>PgDown</keycap> to put it beneath original object, place it a
little to the right
and lower than original object. Now open Fill And Stroke dialog and change
Blur value to,
say, 5.0. That's it!

Although this report was closed as fixed many months ago, it's still not fixed in the SVG file (share/tutorials/tutorial-tips.svg) in SVN, nor is it fixed on the website (http://www.inkscape.org/doc/tips/tutorial-tips.html).

Changed in inkscape:
assignee: nobody → alexandre-prokoudine

The source XML file says exactly this:

<title>Drop shadows</title>
<para>

As you seem I fixed it on my side :)

So it's just SVG and webpage are not up to date

This is fixed in the docbook now per Alexandre... I am closing this as fix released. The bug to watch now for the SVGs (which are done) and the website copy (to be done) is https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/381274 .

Changed in inkscape:
milestone: none → 0.47
status: In Progress → Fix Released
