Bug Description

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

Graphical glitches in 3D applications... most notable z-buffer error.

Reproduce:
- Start the preview of the 'EndGame' 3d screensaver. You'll notice, after some time, that parts or some whole chess pieces move through eachother.

I'm not sure if this is related but the compiz fusion shift switcher loses the windows as well (perhaps rendered behind the background?).

Specs:
Videocard: Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics Controller
Driver: intel
Kernel: 2.6.22-14-generic

I also have this, Dell Latitude D630 (also GM965/GL960 graphics), amd64 Ubuntu Gutsy and i386 Xubuntu Gutsy, affects at least Endgame, Gears, Planetary Gears, Polyhedra and Queens screensavers, but only in fullscreen not the small preview window. Disabling DRI avoids this bug, but reduces performance.

Endgame also triggers the X crash bug 120834, but only in Ubuntu not Xubuntu, so I'm guessing they are separate problems.

I think I've seen this as well on my 1505N with i945 gfx, but the issue resolved after upgrading to Hardy.

Rebecca and Sander, please test against Hardy alpha2 or newer to see if it also resolves the issue for you.

It is again present in mesa 7.0.3~rc2-1ubuntu2 version. It might or might not be in conjunction with other rendering problems described in bug #199823. The common thing is both problems disappeared after downgrading mesa to 7.0.2-4ubuntu2 version.

I just updated to ubuntu 8.04 beta (9 dats before launch) and the bug is NOT fixed!

Behavior:
- Z-buffering issues. Check the 'End Game' screensaver fullscreen preview.
- Not updating the background / other apps after an OpenGL window moved.
- OpenGL applications do not show a border.

Is this related to the crash fix from this bug report: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/hardy/+source/mesa/+bug/120834

Fairly sure this is just a mesa bug, so no need to have it filed against -intel as well.

Upgraded to 8.04 LTS right after launch and first thing that grabbed my attention is that this bug is still not fixed... The z-buffer error is very noticable.... It can be reproduced very easily using the 'endgame' screensaver...

In addition could the importance of this bug perhaps be bumped up some? I find the importance set to 'low' somewhat weird for something that annoys and grabs the attention as much as this...? I
Up to the important people ofcourse...

Same issue on freshly installed and updated hardy. X3100, everything default. Normal behaviour in windowed mode, broken z-buffering in full screen.
