Bug Description

Hi.

I have installek Kubunto 7.10 but Konsole refuses to manage bookmarks properly.

The bookmarks menu interface works well, but nothing is done.

I cant create folders or new bookmarks and no error messages are shown, it simple do nothing.

Permissions and ownership of $HOME/.kde/share/apps/konsole are ok. (And relaxed, I set chmod 777)

bookmarks.xml and bookmarks.xml.tbcache are always of size 0.

I have tried reinstalling Konsole and it continues failing.

Any ideas?

I have almost the same situation of konsole except I am using ubuntu. I can add bookmark into the Bookmarks but when I click the "edit bookmarks" noting is done.

Then I go to the $HOME/.kde/share/apps/konsole edit bookmarks.xml. It works on my laptop.

I had a previus "bookmarks.xml" from other machine (Debian-KDE) but it's not "imported", I mean, I copied that bookmarks file in apps/konsole but Konsole shows an empty bookmark list.
I decided to create again all the bookmarks again manually but the bookmarks menu do nothing, its like a frontend without a backend, only interface, no real actions.
bookmarks.xml is created but its size is always zero.

Does this issue still appear in KDE 4?

Hi to all

I have similar behaviour too..

Now I have KDE 4.2 (kubuntu 8.10) but kbookmarksmanager doesn't work properly since KDE4.0
when I try to save new bookmarks often they disappear when I try to change something

for example
I have
ssh://user@ip_host

I need to change port for connect
ssh://user@ip_host:port
ssh ip_host -l user -p port
doesn't work

In KDE3.5 they did works

Doesn't work too to create a new bookmark (not modify existing)
I have a lot of IpCop and other console listening on "not ordinary port" for my ssh connection, for various reason, and I can't remember it all

If you need more info, let me know :)

hope to help

Paolo

Can you clarify that a little bit? How does your ssh command relate to the bookmarks?
Do bookmarks just on the local file system work fine for you?

In konsole It's possible to bookmark ssh session too (not only local file)

if you do "bookmark - add new" (or something similar.. my kubuntu is in italian), you can assign a "name" and a "position" to the bookmark you're going to create.

The "Name" field is a simple descriptor, and the "Position" field can a local or remote file system
I wrote in "position" field "ssh://root@remote_host_ip". That permit to me to connect to remote host without remember the remote ip (which is bookmarked).

The issue happen when I try to specify a different port for the connection. For example when I try to bookmark somethin like "ssh://root@remote_host_ip:222" for a IpCop console connection.

I can bookmark remote session if I don't specify the remote port
In few words:
ssh://root@remote_host_ip WORKS
ssh remote_host_ip -l root WORKS
ssh://root@remote_host_ip:remote_port DOESN'T WORKS
ssh remote_host_ip -l root -p remote_port DOESN'T WORKS

Hope this help :)

I can tell you also I try to delete the /home/pak/.kde/share/apps/konsole/bookmark.xml file, to let the konsole program create a new one, and I try to modify the xml file editing it... but with no success

bye
Pak

Hi there!

Thanks for reporting this bug! Your bug seems to be a problem with the KDE program itself, and not with our KDE packages. While we appreciate your issue, it would be better if it was tracked at https://bugs.kde.org, so that the KDE developers can deal with this speedily and have direct communication with you as the reporter for more effective debugging.

Thanks!
