Thanks for looking into this, asking for feedback in the Debian bug and offering your help there.

JFI: I think we should wait and see what happens in Debian in regard to this in the next weeks/months.

Looks like the hard work has been done already:

Debian packages of dspam 3.8.0 for edgy:
    http://packages.kirya.net/debian/pool/main/d/dspam/

Ubuntu "How-To"
    http://juxtaposition.axley.net/archives/2007/11/postfix_dspam_3_1.html

I've updated the Debian bug and hopefully this will progress into Debian and trickle this way, in which case this is just for the interest of anyone who passes by here looking for 3.8.0 in the meantime.

Ben Klang (bklang) wrote :

Attached is a patch with the changes I had to make to the debian/ directory to get it to build 3.8.0. They are indeed minimal: One included patch was fixed upstream and the only other change was to make small corrections to the dspam.conf debianization patch. Also the Oracle driver was deprecated upstream so a reference to the documentation text was removed from the packaging list.

Ben: can you please upload your package to revu [1] or ppa [2] please

1. revu.ubuntuwire.com
2. ppa.launchpad.net

Having new .diff.gz attached to this bug should be enough too, given that there's a valid watch file to grab upstream tarball.

Nicolas: why would he? REVU is for NEW packages, and PPA isn't part of any Ubuntu process.

Ben: do you know why the package is not updated in Debian?
How/where can we get the upstream tarball? Did you make any change to it? Taking a quick look at your diff, distro should be intrepid and version should end with -0ubuntu1. Also you should precisely list each change you made to the package in the changelog. Note that FeatureFreeze is only a few hours away, so you might need a freeze exception to get this package in. I'd like to testimony that the 3.9.0 packages from kirya.net are very stable, at least at my place where they do the daily spam filtering with success.

I just looked at the Debian side of things. They are still working on getting the new dspam release. It may be only ready for natty though. There seems to have been a few issues they're working on testing and fixing.
