Bug Description

When zooming the mouse is locked in place, this is rather annoying as you can not fine tune or change focus while zooming but have to make it a step buy step process.
Ie, zoom then move the mouse and then zoom again, instead of just moving the mouse while zooming.

What version of Ubuntu are you using? What zooming tool are you using? Is this still an issue?

Opps that was a video for a different bug.

Here is the right one.

Notice how the mouse wobbles, it's because i try to move the mouse while im zooming, but the mouse is locked. It looks a lot more erratic IRL.

Ah, how we love X Fixes.

What options do you have set for ezoom?

The core problem is that nobody ever fixes X Fixes so eZoom hacks it's way around it, and sometimes fail... Hmm, didn't know this was still an issue...

I have no idea what eZoom is or where i can find it's setting, all i did was install Ubuntu 9.10 on a computer that has an Intel graphic card.

What requested information, it has been associated with compiz as requested. All my settings are default, and i even posted a video of the issue.

I am still aware of the issue. It has been alleviated by X-Fixes being less of a problem, partly because FireFox doesn't have an animated cursor any more.

The defaults have been changed and a software cursor plus mouse panning is now the default, which means this isn't a problem with the default configuration - though most likely a problem if you explicitly reset the option.

The defaults are not fixed in maverick to my knowledge, though I must confess to not checking. I only changed them upstream about two months ago.

Ajenbo, in a freshly installed, fully updated Maverick, I cannot duplicate this phenomenon with defaults. What type of mouse are you using a laptop touchpad, serial, USB mouse? Do you notice any correlation to what your zooming into, ex. what program(s) are open? As well, we need to know is what version of Compiz you are using to further check if it is in fact due to Compiz or not.

Kristian, thank you for contributing to this bug. Regarding Maverick or future comments on OS, saying that defaults are not fixed but you did not check is speculation at best and not helpful in resolving this. If you checked it and it did not work, then post, if not, and do not have fact based information to provide, please do not. No big deal. :)

Rusivi, I wrote ezoom. It is not speculation when I say that the defaults are changed upstream as I changed them.

However, this user probably uses "desktop zoom" instead of enhanced zoom. That is legacy ware. And I can say with considerable certainty that his mouse isn't the problem.

The easiest way to resolve this issue is if someone on maverick could check:
1. Which of the zoom plugins are used by default
2. What are the default options for ezoom in maverick

I am not using maverick myself but I am sure you'll understand that not all upstream developers are able or willing to also test all the various distributions at the same time. That's why I look to volunteer distribution testers to help me fill in the possibly distro-specific parts while I focus on Compiz.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to look at all reported bugs in a timely manner. There have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem may have been fixed with some of the updates. It would help us a lot if you could test it on a currently supported Ubuntu version. When you test it and it is still an issue, kindly upload the updated logs by running apport-collect <bug #> and any other logs that are relevant for this particular issue.
