Bug Description

When zooming close things start to fade to black, the closer you get, i would think this is really bad for users with bad eye sight.

This is a well known bug (sorry), and it's not really an eZoom issue.

The basic problem is that the lighting normalization is plain Wrong[tm]. This can be seen in other ways too (try setting up a virtual setup with 10x10 monitors and grabbing a cube and you'll see the lighting is not consistent).

The workaround is to turn of lighting (core option), the fix is to try to work your mind around how the lighting code works... (This has been a known issue since at least early 2007 - sorry that I didn't get around to reading this bug until now)

The above image (which is ancient and - strictly speaking - beryl) is a 3x3 screen setup, and you can clearly see the lighting is wrong.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. The package your reporting is updated and the issue should be reproducible with the live environment of the Desktop CD development release - Maverick Meerkat. It would help us greatly if you could test with it so we can work on getting it fixed in the next release of Ubuntu. You can find out more about the development release at http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/. Thanks again and we appreciate your help.

On what basis is this being closed? I am aware of no fix to this except disabling lighting in Compiz.

Sorry it was a mistake. I tested it in 10.10 and didn't initially see it, but retesting it on a white background i see that the issue is still there.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to look at all reported bugs in a timely manner. There have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem may have been fixed with some of the updates. It would help us a lot if you could test it on a currently supported Ubuntu version. When you test it and it is still an issue, kindly upload the updated logs by running apport-collect <bug #> and any other logs that are relevant for this particular issue.
