Lots of details about the mkv need to be included, such as the mediainfo output, and ideally a segment of the file -- mkvmerge is capable of creating small pieces of a larger file.

The sound on that file does work in VLC 2.2.1 here. You're using 2.2.0.

I'm stuck to the version Canonical releases - which is in Ubuntu 15.04 2.2.0.

Nevertheless: This should work, regardless which version a user uses.

Yes, I agree. But I'm not convinced this is a VLC bug, or a bug at all. It might be a problem with how your system is configured or something. Someone else with the same software will have to test it. Also, you could try it from the console to see if there's any useful output.

I think not!

1. There a LOT of problems in the net like this: https://trac.videolan.org/vlc/ticket/6685
1a. 138.000 Google hits

2. Seems to be a problem of AC3

3. Why is this working with other video players without problems, without configuring anything?
3a. Made a fresh installation of Xubuntu 14.04.2, same thing
VLC is there in version 2.1.6

Can't reproduce the issue with 2.2.4-1 and the given sample. Is this still an issue?
