Bug Description

Binary package hint: restricted-manager

I have a problem with restricted manager:

While my broadcom pcmcia card seems to install and connect (but limited only to 24Mb/s speed), downloading the file wl_apsta.o from the internet (but not from a local source, (known bug)) the restricted manager still report the driver as not enabled and not in use.
the card is: (02:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4306 802.11b/g Wireless LAN Controller (rev 02))

After a reboot the card is not working anymore and restricted manager needs to download from internet every time the firmware in order to set up and connect again.

I suppose this is not intended. Also if I am without a cabled connection to the internet I'm also unable to download the firmware in order to start the device.
so this is to report that:
1) wl_apsta.o cannot be loaded locally (browse button disabled)
2) restricted-manager eventually does not know it has already downloaded previously the firmware wl_apsta.o
3) restricted-manager does not change the status to "enabled" and to "in use"
4) restricted-manager does not update its configuration in order to know that the driver/firmware is already installed by the user in the previous session.
5) The driver does not support (at least to me) speed faster than 24 Mb/s when connected 802.11G

my computer is a laptop Acer Aspire 1304LC

Did you upgrade any packages before the reboot? It may have happened that the Linux kernel was updated, which triggers bug 138400 (https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-restricted-modules-2.6.22/+bug/138400). Please check that bug report and tell me if your bug may be a duplicate of it.

Have you updated your gutsy installation? Some of your problems described were fixed after the bug 135000 was fixed.
