Bug Description

File-roller is selecting directories in the directory I *really* want to extract
to, and is extracting there. If I want to extract to a particular directory, I
have to go one level up, and then select the directory from there.

The bug is not clear. What are you trying to extract and how (from nautilus,
file-roller menus, context menu ...) ?

When I open an archive and select extract, the extract dialog immediately
highlights a directory in the right hand list. It will not unselect the
directories. When I try to scroll down out of the directories, the highlight bar
stops at the last directory.

If I did nothing here except go ahead with the extract, it will extract to
whatever directory was at the top of the list at the time.

I'm running Hoary. File-roller version is 2.9.91.

This upstream bug seems to correspond, I'll add a command here:

There doesn't seem to be much discussion of this bug at bugzilla.gnome.org. Is
there anything else I should do here?

Since I know about this bug, I can work around it. Anyone else using this
computer only sees that file-roller refuses to extract to what that person
should reasonably expect is the proper folder. Then I catch hell.

I won't say it's completely unusable, but it's definitely unfriendly at this point.

Is this going to show up in Hoary, or will I have to wait for Breezy to get this
fix?

Sebastien Bacher (seb128) wrote :

that will probably not be fixed for hoary no since that's not a security fix nor
a fix for a common crasher or something like that

But it is a rather significant usability bug. I thought that was also subject to
updates.

if you have a small/easy patch fixing the issue that can be considered for an update

This bug has been present throughout Hardy, Intrepid, Jaunty, and now Karmic.
To reproduce:
1. open an archive with Archive Manager (file-roller).
2. Click the extract button.
3. In the file selection dialog, let the initially selected folder stay selected; just click extract. Nothing happens.
4. Now, select another folder, and click extract. It works.
