Bug Description

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

In Gutsy, I am experiencing spontaneous reboots randomly on suspend-to-RAM. Right before the system spontaneously reboots, I see a checkered pattern on a black-and-white console display. At times, though rare, I have also seen similar crashes when stopping and restarting the X server manually - which leads me to believe that starting/stopping the X server is what is causing the issue. I have no such problem when using 915resolution and the old i810 driver in Feisty, but do see the same problem on Debian unstable (which uses the intel driver). While it doesn't occur every time I suspend, it occurs often enough that this is a
MAJOR annoyance for me.

System configuration is a MacBook Core Duo (first generation) with 2GB RAM.
This bug is also reported in Debian (bug# 434833)

(This sounds similar to Bug #127101 )

I can confirm this. Same setup, Macbook c2d, compiz enabled. I get blocks of grey pixels on a black screen then the system reboots.

I can confirm this bug on a Dell 1420 with an i945GM running compiz and intel driver. The bahavior is identical; a crash on suspend with a weird black and white checkered pattern. It happens infrequently but often enough to be annoying.

This really sounds like Bug #127101 . Maybe Mac hardware just reboots after freeze. Could you recheck if the screen looks similar like in this video http://launchpadlibrarian.net/8783569/SSA43053.AVI after crash ?
If yes please mark this bug as a duplicate or at least report it here.

It is indeed the same problem. I was reluctant to dupe it at first but as it looks like the same underlying cause, it's pointless having two open.
