Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-volume-manager

Hi,

on some Gutsy Systems Gnome-Volume-Manager seems to hang on Boot. When Gnome is loaded, gnome-volume-manager needs ~2 minutes to launch. There are no critical logs and no way to get around it.

When I kill the manager process and start in in console, theres no problem and its up in under a second.

Maybe Hardware is interesting.

I'm running Gutsy on an Asus F3jm Notebook.

Core 2 Duo Intel Platform Sound etc...

I can confirm this bug since a few days. I'm running a post tribe-2 system on a Thinkpad X60s (subnotebook, Sata hard disk, no optical devices)

Actually this might be a duplicate of bug #122949 after all...

Hangs on a Tribe II installation (nForce4, three PATA disks, nVidia graphic card) no matter if I enable or disable compiz. Also nautilus sometimes gives me 100% CPU usage on this machine (not visible in the process monitor but using "top" shows it) during session start (won't stop until killed).

Doesn't hang on an upgraded laptop (945PM, single SATA disk, nVidia graphic card).

For the record, my system is freshly installed, but the home directory is taken from an debian installation (which was in turn imported from an feisty installation)

I am having the same problem. Core 2 Duo, etc. - almost new Dell E1705 laptop, very powerful. I don't think hardware is the issue here.

I am running Ubuntu 7.04 - I think it's called Feisty Fawn? I can't keep track of all the names lol. I'm experiencing this problem with Compiz - when I change the window manager back to Metacity, it's normal and a very fast startup. However with compiz as the window manager (and emerald as the window decorator, though it doesn't make a difference) it delays the startup time by exactly 2 minutes. I'm not sure how the author of this bug report found that it is related to gnome-volume-manager; I might dispute that. It seems to be related to gnome-wm or something, though I have tried all sorts of modifications to gnome-wm.

I am about to experiment with disabling some startup things. I will report back if I find anything interesting.

I disabled gnome-volume-manager and restarted... Well oddly enough, gnome-session-remove --list still showed the volume manager as having been executed, so I ended it but the startup continued to stall.

Just as I thought... It's a graphics problem. This bug might be referring to something else, but I think the author is simply mistaken... Or I am.
