Bug Description

Hi,

on Ubuntu Precise 12.04.1 with kernel 3.2.0-29-generic
the touchpad of the Fujitsu LifeBook AH532
(http://www.fujitsu.com/fts/products/computing/pc/notebooks-tablets/all-round/l
is not recognized by the kernel.

[Update: Same problem on Quantal as of 20120825]

/proc/bus/input/device shows only a generic mouse:

        I: Bus=0011 Vendor=0002 Product=0001 Version=0000
        N: Name="PS/2 Generic Mouse"

Consequently, xinput shows
Virtual core pointer id=2 [master pointer
↳ Virtual core XTEST pointer id=4 [slave pointer
           ↳ PS/2 Generic Mouse id=13 [slave pointer

tpconfig --info reveals that it *is* a synaptic:
        Found Synaptics Touchpad.
        Firmware: 8.96 (multiple-byte mode).
        Sensor type: unknown (0).
        Geometry: rectangular/landscape/up.
Packets: absolute, 80 packets per second.
Corner taps disabled; no tap gestures.
        Edge motion: none.
        Z threshold: 6 of 7.
2 button mode; corner tap is right button click.

To the people affected by this bug, I'd recommend trying the driver made by Dave Turvene mentionned here :

driver is at http://www.dahetral.com/public-download

unpack the driver to /usr/src/psmouse-alps-dst-1.0/
then :
sudo dkms build psmouse/alps-dst-1.0
sudo dkms install psmouse/alps-dst-1.0
sudo rmmod psmouse && sudo modprobe -v psmouse

Steffen Neumann, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p xserver-xorg-input-synaptics REPLACE-WITH-BUG-NUMBER

Please note, given that the information from the prior release is already available, doing this on a release prior to the development one would not be helpful.

Thank you for your understanding.

Had same problem on Lifebook A512 - Ubuntu 13.10 64bit and 14.04 Live version.
The touchpad's scroll and mid-click (Left+Right button) were not working.

I tried the commands suggested on #14 and this similar workaround http://nwoki.wordpress.com/2012/10/02/multitouch-fix-for-alps-touchpad
Sorry, can't tell which one of the two methods worked, I'm totally "noob" with regard to kernel modules (made a lot of confiuson and receivde e few error messages)... anyway after a reboot I can tell that the touchpad is now working!

This means that there must be something good into the psmouse-alps-1.3 driver (http://www.dahetral.com/public-download/alps-psmouse-dlkm-for-3-2-and-3-5/view) that could fix the problem.

If there is any way to help to get more informations (run commands, post file settings...) just let me know.

Hope it's OK.

Now I can describe the workaround, which might be helpful for other users:

1- Downloaded drivers here http://www.dahetral.com/public-download/alps-psmouse-dlkm-for-3-2-and-3-5/view
2- Moved the folder "psmouse-alps-1.3" into "/usr/src/"
3- cd /usr/src
4- sudo dkms build psmouse/alps-1.3
5- sudo dkms install psmouse/alps-1.3
6- sudo rmmod psmouse && sudo modprobe -v psmouse

Thank you, Jeremie Tamburini - thank you really ever so much!!! Finally
fixed! I write for a living, and having a practically uncontrolled cursor
has been a terrible ordeal. Now my Fujitsu is perfect.

I had seen numerous references to the alps-1.3, but was unable to install
it. Your simple and accurate 6-step guide was crystal clear and made all
the difference!

Thank you again.

Bug description:
  Hi,

on Ubuntu Precise 12.04.1 with kernel 3.2.0-29-generic
the touchpad of the Fujitsu LifeBook AH532
  (
http://www.fujitsu.com/fts/products/computing/pc/notebooks-tablets/all-round/l
is not recognized by the kernel.

[Update: Same problem on Quantal as of 20120825]

/proc/bus/input/device shows only a generic mouse:

          I: Bus=0011 Vendor=0002 Product=0001 Version=0000
          N: Name="PS/2 Generic Mouse"

  Consequently, xinput shows
           Virtual core pointer id=2 [master
pointer
↳ Virtual core XTEST pointer id=4 [slave
 pointer
             ↳ PS/2 Generic Mouse id=13 [slave
 pointer

tpconfig --info reveals that it *is* a synaptic:
          Found Synaptics Touchpad.
          Firmware: 8.96 (multiple-byte mode).
          Sensor type: unknown (0).
          Geometry: rectangular/landscape/up.
Packets: absolute, 80 packets per second.
Corner taps disabled; no tap gestures.
          Edge motion: none.
          Z threshold: 6 of 7.
2 button mode; corner tap is right button click.
