Bug Description

I had finished doing some work in a chroot, had exited it, and issued the command "umount -a", rather than individually umount each of the mounted elements. That killed X completely and gave a screenful of error messages. I was able to reboot using the alt-sysrq REISUB sequence.

If this is an illegal command in the circumstances, I would have expected to get a warning of some kind, or have the command blocked altogether.

The machine is an EeePC 900, and the system is a fully-updated version of 12.04 (non-pae kernel) running gnome-fallback.

There is a test kernel available for this bug at:
  http://people.canonical.com/~apw/lp922906-precise/

Can you test this kernel and report back in bug 922906 where or not the test kernel resolved this bug?
