Bug Description
my system was up-to-date, I was just getting a fresh apt-get upgrade in a gnome-terminal, and listening to banshee, when boom... it all went black... I could not access my system, I could not restart X with Ctlr+Alt+Bckspc, or change to a textual shell with Ctlr+Alt+F2... I had to remotely access the box via SSH... killing gdm and X was not enough, so eventually I gave up and rebooted the system to file this bug repport
