Bug Description

Problem is sporadic. If computer is booted with headphones unplugged the sound switching works fine. Breaks sometimes following suspend or upon opening certain content such as Flash animations. Unsure exactly what is causing it. Often machine will lock on one or the other output and will play sound correctly through that output but will not switch back and fourth.

If fixated on internal speakers there is sound from the speakers and plugging in the headphones does not mute and headphones produce no sound. If fixated on headphones the internal speakers are muted and sound comes through the headphones properly but removing headphones does not unmute speakers.

System information gathered when computer is operating properly.

Hi Samantha and thanks for your bug report. I have the same problem here on the x100e (see bug 741825) and I believe it is related to the AMD/ATI southbridge. So far I've been unable to solve it, it might be a chipset bug.

@David Henningsson: I don't believe our computers have the same southbridge, though. My understanding is that the E-350 processors were rolled out with Hudson D1 southbridges which would have been different from what was used with Neo processors found in X100e's.

That being said, I will wait until I have another error with the sound and then check to see if I'm getting inordinate amounts of interrupts.

Please do, and it would also be interesting to see if recording stops working at that point as well.

I can give you a conclusive answer with regards to 11.04 when I break it but my 10.10 install with a custom-rolled ALSA install, which also suffered this particular grievance, did break the recording as well.
