Bug Description

I am running natty. When I first installed the alpha hibernate was broken (video garbled, I'll attach a video) but I could not report the problem. Then recently (I'd say two weeks ago, so around 1st of april 2011) it was fixed by updates. However after that something bad and unrelated happened and I reinstalled from a daily live. The problem is again there as of 16th of april.

The problem is that the display is garbled, no characters are visible but what appear to be random pixel lines. It's so even in the consoles (ctrl+alt+fn).

In the attached video you can see the problem. First, I am on the locked screen after hibernate. Then I enter my password. As you can see the computer is perfectly working but video is garbled. I can click on the shutdown menu and all the rest. In the third part of the video I switch to a virual console and press enter repeatedly. What can be seen is a series of white messed-up pixels where white console text lines should be.

This also affects the eeePC 1000HE. The garbled screen goes away after putting the netbook in sleep mode for a second.

I confirm the bug on an eeepc 1000H.

Definitely a regression, this machine worked quite well with maverick.

And very bad too, since on netbooks like this one the battery only lasts for a few hours, at best 1 day in suspend.
Furthermore, the disabling of gnome session in natty makes it compulsory to restart everything when the machine is switched off.

This bug is still present in the latest oneiric (backported to lts version) kernel 3.0.0-13-generic #22~lucid1-Ubuntu.

Worked with some of the maverick kernels, others showed a black box on screen. In the latest 3.0.0 kernel, I get a black screen (even in other consoles).

As described in another post above, sleeping then resuming restores the screen even after hibernating has botched it up.
