Bug Description

Linux 2.6.38-8-generic doesn't boot on Toshiba Satellite A60. It happens very early in boot process, so I can't gather any info. If I boot in not silent mode, I get in the screen a output of error of kernel, I think, but I can't read because it scroll very fast. The CPU is a Pentium 4 dual-core 3Ghz 1MB cache. The board is a ATI based. This bug doesn't affect 2.6.35-X kernel.

Update!!! acpi=off works. But now sound is somehow doubled. I can't explain but I try. It's a sort of echo after half a second.

Hi there

Natty (2.6.38-8-generic) doesn't boot on my wife's Toshiba Satellite A60 as well after the upgrade from Maverik.
It doesn't boot from Natty's Live CD either.
Same situation as the OP.

The error code is 0x67/0x6c

acpi=off makes it boot but doing so there is no USB and PCMCIA connectivity.

Kernel 2.6.35 from Maverik works, while 2.6.39-rc4 outputs the same error code.

Hi again,

I've just added the xorg-edgers ppa (https://launchpad.net/~xorg-edgers/+archive/ppa) and installed kernel 2.6.39-1.6
This kernel allows Ubuntu to boot without setting acpi=off

Hope this helps finding a solution.

henk0775, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please capture the oops following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeam/KernelTeamBugPolicies#Capturing_OOPs ? As well, can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux <replace-with-bug-number>

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.
