Bug Description

In Maverick, my webcam (Logitech QuickCam Deluxe for Notebooks) worked flawlessly. Now, when I boot up Natty Beta, I get nothing in Cheese. In gstreamer-properties, I get

gstreamer-properties-Message: Error running pipeline 'Video for Linux 2 (v4l2)': Device '/dev/video0' cannot capture at 8192x8192 [gstv4l2object.c(2093): gst_v4l2_object_set_format (): /GstPipeline:pipeline0/GstV4l2Src:v4l2src1:
Call to S_FMT failed for YUYV @ 8192x8192: Input/output error]

Most importantly, dmesg gives this:
jeremy@Megatron-test:~$ dmesg | grep uvc
[ 18.169128] uvcvideo: Found UVC 1.00 device <unnamed> (046d:09c1)

There appears to have been a regression and I'm now seeing the same errors as Jeremy in Oneiric with my Logitech QC 9000 Pro.

It was working fine in Oneiric when I tested it several weeks back.

gstreamer-properties, when clicking test, throws an error 'Video for Linux 2 (v4l2): no element "null"'.

I too have this problem with 11.10 and my UVC camera. However, I'd like to post the following workaround - I hope it helps others:

sudo rmmod uvcvideo
sudo modprobe uvcvideo
unplug camera from USB port
plug camera back in
and now all is well

Whatever the bug is it seems to only happen if the device is detected during boot.

Jeremey von Hoff, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux <replace-with-bug-number>

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.
