Bug Description

Parts of screen go black. I can't see what I'm typing, I can see for awhile when moving windows, menu bar at top and bottom do not show but are functional. Icons show along with rest of desktop after moving mouse around it. Sorry, but I cant navigate to terminal for information dumps. Alt+F brings up dialog box that says compiz crashed every time.

Sorry I'm not much help, I'm pretty new to Linux still. I'd be happy to answer questions or anything.

Scott hatlen, thank you for reporting this bug and helping make Ubuntu better. This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux <replace-with-bug-number>

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.

I actually left for a study abroad trip and had to leave my desktop at home
so I haven't been able to use it for awhile... What I ended up doing was
using earlier versions of Linux through the Grub boot manager. I
will definitely try your recommendations when I return though, and let you
know how it goes.

Thanks for the support,
Scott
