Bug Description

10.04 suspend/hibernate worked beautifully on this Toshiba U300. Stock ubuntu kernels all the way to the day I dist-upgraded to 10.10.

The default kernels in 10.10 do not suspend/resume correctly. No specific errors in pm-suspend.log. It appears that entering suspend works fine, but it wakes up *immediately* and I'm at a fb console with the standard login prompt, but the computer's frozen solid. none of the 10.10 kernel updates have resolved this, and the regression has carried forward into the 11.04 alpha release of Ubuntu.

Can we confirm this bug still exists in the latest Maverick, it would also be helpful to test a Natty LiveCD as well to see how that fairs. Please report back here.

Tried a fresh 10.10 amd64 livecd (liveUSB actually) and it suspends and resumes great.
Also tried with a fresh 11.04 (alpha2) liveCD and it suspends and resumes perfectly. (2.6.38-1-generic #28-Ubuntu SMP x86_64)

The kernel I am running on this system when booting from the hard drive is 2.6.38-3-generic #30-Ubuntu SMP x86_64, and it definitely does NOT suspend correctly (framebuffer login screen, locked up, sysrq works to sync/reboot).

If it makes any difference... the live CDs boot gnome but I'm running kubuntu-desktop when booting from the HDD.

Also, relevant dpkg and uname output when booting from HDD (where suspend fails):

$ dpkg --get-selections | grep -- -image
libsdl-image1.2 install
linux-image-2.6.35-24-generic install
linux-image-2.6.35-25-generic deinstall
linux-image-2.6.37-12-generic install
linux-image-2.6.38-1-generic install
linux-image-2.6.38-2-generic install
linux-image-2.6.38-3-generic install
linux-image-generic install

$ uname -a
Linux aklaptop 2.6.38-3-generic #30-Ubuntu SMP Thu Feb 10 00:33:26 UTC 2011 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Same problem with 2.6.38-3 from xedgers PPA on Maverick. 2.6.38-2 works just fine.
