Bug Description

In order to facilitate users finding, launching and dragging to the launcher apps which they have just installed, the apps place should have a section for "Recently Installed" applications. By default, that section should only be one row deep. It should show apps sorted in reverse order of installation, i.e. the latest app to be installed should be the first icon in the row. On expansion, it should show up to 30 apps.

We can do this without too much fuzz if it's acceptable that it only works if you install the app while Unity is running (or specifically the unity-place-applications daemon). That is - the "easy" fix wont work if you install from a pure TTY session or classic gnome session. This "easy" solution can be implemented purely inside the unity-place-applications daemon.

The slightly cooler, more elaborate, and always-working solution would be to have an apt/dpkg/whatever hook that sends an event to Zeitgeist whenever you install a package that contains one or more desktop files.

Adding an ayatana-design task. We need a group header icon for the "Recently Installed" group described by Mark - or clarification if one of the existing ones can be used here as well.

It would also be very helpful if the IX spec could be updated to reflect this.

Hi,
I'm not sure it will solve the problem.

The same trouble occurs on file searching.
If you just copy (or create) a music to your computer and, immediatly try to locate it, you probably won't get to find/open it via dash.

Dash seems to not be updated immediatly, so the problem existis for programs, files, music, photos or anything else.

As a new User I find myself installing frequently a number of apps. I've searched in vain for a way to display only those. This is a must have feature.
