Bug Description

Hi,

Atached, you should find collected system info. from my laptop.

The reproduction is very smple : unplug the laptop from AC, leave it without your attention for some time so that its power manager decides to suspend it. Then try to wake it from suspend. Sometimes I see a blink of text console, but then always comes a black highlighted screen. It stops responding to keyboard, as well as to ssh logons (by brcm80211 wifi network) and then I have to power-cycle it.

I heard that 2.6.37 kernel has some bug with Intel graphic driver that is unknown to be fixed or not.
May be it is what I am stumbling upon ?

Some additional notes :

1. I use Kubuntu since v9.10, upgraded gradually to 11.04
2. Earlier I used exactly the same system on Asus Z99Le-C540SCADAW, and after some troubles with ath5k driver, it worked perfectly overall.
3. I have to use kernel 2.6.37 to get Broadcom wifi support (brcm80211, BCM43225). Older kernels limit me to only wired Ethernet (atl1c, AR8151), and even older do not support either of them.

On your request, I will try to boot my system with any kernel parameters you like, and send you any requested additional info.

Tried to upgrade BIOS to v1.20 as provided by Acer
The things chaged a little :
uplug from AC, wait for suspend, replug AC, press a key to wake : now after text console blink, appears a black console showing display brightness indicator ! But the rest is still the same : no response to keyboard or network, the only way out is power-cycle.
Beeps are still heard on AC unplug/replug.

Hi Wladimir,

If you could also please test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.

The same behaviour is reproduced. Blink of text console, then black highlighted screen with brightness indicator drawn.
No response to keyboard and network. Only power-cycle helps.

This bad behaviour disappeared with kernel package version 2.6.38-2
Let's see if it is not reintroduced with final Natty release.

Unforunately this started to happen again with 2.6.38-3
Had to revert to 2.6.38-2 so far.
Will try again with .38-4

With .38-3 I don't even see text console on resume. Only backlit black screen. And unresponsive keyboard/touchpad. Except pressing and holding power button, of course .

.38-4 does as well as -2. Much better than -3. This is probably due to "drm/i915: Fix resume regression from 5d1d0cc" shown in .38-rc5 changelog
