Bug Description

Binary package hint: empathy

Since a few days ago, I now see my own account in Empathy's contact list. I can even chat to myself! (Voice calls don't work, though). This is a bit confusing, and certainly not intended?

It doesn't seem dependent on the configuration. In my "real" config I see myself as meta-contact merging my jabber, gtalk, and salut accounts, but this reproduces nicely in a guest session (i. e. no config at all) with just enabling the salut ("persons near me") account and nothing else; in that case, I see "guest" in the contacts list.

Downgrading to telepathy-salut 0.3.13 doesn't help, so it's not a regression in salut 0.40. My own contact remains when I disable any two of my three accounts, it just randomly jumps between "Persons nearby" and "Ungrouped". So this looks like a general bug in empathy, not one in a particular communication protocol.

Downgrading empathy to 2.32.1 fixes this, so the regression happened somewhere between 2.32.1 and .2.

I just noticed that our current package is not a clean 2.32.2, but has some git cherrypicks:

empathy (2.32.2-0ubuntu2) natty; urgency=low

  * debian/patches/00git_folks_aliasable_groupable.patch:
  * debian/patches/00git_individual_methods.patch:
    - Use latest libfolks API

This could be related?

yes it certainly seems related to libfolks (there was a folks update too I think)

if we go for empathy 3.0 in natty this bug will be automagically fixed else we have to find ways to fix.
