Bug Description

The middlebutton of the touchpad in a dell precision m6400 and m6500 laptops stopped working after upgrade from karmic to maverick. This is a regression that started from Ubuntu 2.6.35-22-generic kernel onwards. When using the equivalent mainline kernels, the middlebutton works without problems.

I confirm that the middle button is working with the last 2.6.32-25-generic kernel of lucid-security, put on the maverick installation. It is also working with the mainline kernels. It seems to be specific issue of the maverick kernel.

Hi,
I accept all updates for Ubuntu 10.10. The last kernel I have is 2.6.35-22-generic-pae.
So, as far as I understood, oriolpont just confirmed that OLDER kernel do not produce this problem.
The middle button is still not working on my M6500, ubuntu 10.10, 32bits , kernel 2.6.35-22-generic-pae.
Please reopen this bug.
Thanks!

Removing the upstream Linux project and reassigning the bug to linux (Ubuntu) as the bug isn't there in the mainline kernel series.

It is a dell precision m6400 (not inspiron, excuse the lapsus). Apparently, the touchpad is the same in m6500 (they call it trackpad).
Left-right click is a possible workaround, also the top-right tap with the "mouse clicks" option in mouse preferences.

I am just confirming that today's update to 2.6.35-23-generic kernel still has the same problem, and that the equivalent mainline kernel (package called 2.6.35-02063509) does work. So it seems that running the mainline kernels is another workaround.
