Bug Description

I had 10.04 installed and my webcam would not be recognized. I think a kernel update came and the camera worked. I upgraded to 10.10 and everything works fine except the camera again. The camera shows up in windows just not Ubuntu. I have a HP tx2510us . I tried doing a acpi=off at start up and it disabled my wireless card.

here is a error in the dmesg i get

I think I'm afflicted as well on two machines: one is the vaio laptop I'm writing from.

Please notice that one o the 3 usb ports of the laptop works. I have another identical laptop where the bug does not show (using the 2.6.32 kernel from lucid).

On the other machine (an assembled one) the problem affects an external LACIE disk. Please note that when I connect the LACIE with the both the usb cables provided (optional_power + data), I can make it work under 2.6.35. Under 2.6.32 I don't need to connect the power usb cable.

Daniel Ward, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux <replace-with-bug-number>

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text.

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.

Please let us know your results. Thanks in advance.
