I tried to install it. The installation went succesfully, but after rebooting the result was the same.
It reminds me 6 months ago time, when i had the same problem with Ubuntu and Xubuntu 10.04. It was fixed in final relaase.
My computer is Sony Vaio PCG-R505GL with 640mb RAM.
If you need any further information - contact me.
Hope you will fix it.
Thank you.

Nothing happend with final version. There are no splashed - there is only black screen.
I've tried to upgrade from 10.04 - there was only command line. no GUI was available.

* Can you tell us at what point does the screen become black?
* What do you see before it goes black?

Happy New Year!
I can say, that i don't see a Ubuntu logo. It comes black after bios startup.
I can either add, that ubuntu server 10.10 launches successfully, but the black screen appears after intallation of xubuntu-desktop.
I can't try out anithing right now ( i'm on hollyday), but if you have any questions - i'll be glad to try to answers them by memory.

Hi, sorry you had trouble getting Ubuntu working on your 8xx chip. I'd like to have you re-test against natty and if it's still not working right, please file a bug upstream at bugs.freedesktop.org against Xorg / Intel.

The intel driver seems to not get tested well against the 8xx chips and we've seen lots of regressions and mis-features. Unfortunately the driver code seems to be rather fragile as well, so we've found we cannot effectively patch and maintain the driver at the distro level, and thus are no longer providing development support, nor will be backporting fixes to older Ubuntu releases. You may still be able to get some technical support from places like http://askubuntu.com and similar to work around problems.
