Bug Description

When I plug in a Novation X-Station (a usb soundcard) and then try to perform any other action, the whole system freezes. I cannot switch to the terminal and SysRQ keys also don't work.

If I leave htop open in a terminal and then plug in the device, I can see that modprobe launches and hits 100% on one cpu.

I can move the mouse, but if I attempt any action, then the system freezes hard.

I use, and have used for years, this same device on a Jaunty laptop without any difficulties. This is a new issue on Lucid, albeit on a different laptop. It is currently working on 2.6.28-19-generic

I just tested the same device on the same machine with Linux Mint, which is based on Lucid. The device works fine. Here is the dmesg:

[ 1119.152738] usb 2-1.5: new full speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 6
[ 1119.628177] hub 2-1:1.0: unable to enumerate USB device on port 5

[ 1120.431986] input: Novation DMS XStation as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1d.0/usb2/2-1/2-1.5/2-1.5:1.5/input/input12
[ 1120.432164] generic-usb 0003:1235:0006.0003: input,hidraw1: USB HID v1.00 Device [Novation DMS XStation] on usb-0000:00:1d.0-1.5/input5

Kernel: 2.6.32-21

So the device can work on the computer, but not on Ubuntu.

Due to the lack of response, in desperation -- I was about to move to Debian -- I upgraded to Maverick. The problem is no longer there. For me Maverick is an improvement on Lucid in almost every way.

I am seeing the same symptoms here in Ubuntu 10.04. But: I do not see it with kernel 2.6.32-21; I do see it with kernels 2.6.32-22 through 25.

Computer: HP Elitebook 8540w
USB audio device: Audiotrak DR.DAC2 DX

Googling suggests that the DR.DAC2 DX uses a Tenor TE7022L as its USB interface. In case it matters, in 2.6.32-21 it shows 96 kHz when I play a 96/24 file.

but have no idea how this can help solve my issue :(
