Bug Description

Hi,

It's a bit old issue already, but as the OS images uploaded at the Kubuntu servers are still dated April 29, it means that it are the same images, and hence it have the same problem. So I (finally) have decided to post the bug.

First, I attempted to try Kubuntu 10.04 beta, but the live CD wouldn't even be recognized to initiate the start-up process (by the way, also Fedora 13 KDE 64 bits final release, it has the same problem on my laptop, at least).

Then, I also tried the final release of Kubuntu 10.04 64 bits and the live CD works Ok (I am writing this post on a Kubuntu 10.04 live CD session). However, when I installed the OS to the hard drive... It froze right upon starting up. Then, again and again.. I had to uninstall Kubuntu 10.04.

Googling I found that it happens to several other people this very same problem or very similar ones, like slowing down or sudden general crashes or hang-ups.

The hardware: HP 6735b laptop, Turion Ultra X2, 64 bits, ZM-80, 4GB RAM, ATI Radeon HD 3200.

Victor Marin, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please post the results following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKernelBoot ? As well, can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux <replace-with-bug-number>

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.
