Bug Description
My problem is on this particular hardware the kernel does not boot, as it fails to talk to the hard disks and I see a SRST failed (errno = -16) error messages. I have just been through my old Ubuntu cds and the last kernel I have that boots is 2.6.24-16 generic SMP x86_64. All kernels I have later than this have the above problem. I am currently on 2.6.32-22-generic SMP x86_64 I used rootdelay and all_generic_ide to get some later kernels to boot but recently even this does not work. I bought new hard disks as I thought this may be a motherboard hard disk incompatibility but I still have the problem.
I have found that if I boot windows first, current kernels boot every time without any special options, so it looks like something is not getting set in the motherboard by later kernels that windows is setting
I have also tried 2.6.34-

Hi pdgtips,
If you could also please test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https:/ /wiki.ubuntu. com/KernelMainl ineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs- upstream- testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs- upstream- testing' text. Please let us know your results.
Thanks in advance.
